Ulnar Collateral Ligament Reconstruction (“Tommy John Surgery”)

Tommy John Surgery changed the longevity arc for pitchers in the sport of Baseball, and now helps all overhead athletes (Volleyball, Softball, Tennis, and even Pickleball). Prior to this surgery, the injury to the Ulnar collateral Ligament ended a pitchers career. Now, they can return to their sport in most cases with a UCL reconstruction. Dr. Frank Jobe was the first to perform this surgery in 1986. Current techniques, though still a surgery that requires a high skill level and experience, have improved the outcomes.
